Scotty, I applaud your courage in pointing all this out for consumers’ benefit. However, I am always so sorry to hear the direction that Mercedes Benz has taken – it’s nothing short of tragic. I am now 75 and owned 6 older Mercedes in New Zealand between 1978 and 2010. The first was a 1963 220S which I bought as a one owner car in 1978 when it was 15 years old and I kept it for 10 years. They were all good and I wish I still owned them all.
Now I live in Colombia and sadly 3 years ago bought a 2007 B Class at 76,000 kms. But it has a CVT transmission and the upshot was that it was uneconomic to repair. We sold it at a heavily discounted price just to get rid of the problem. Now we have a 1993 W124 300E – it had done 99,000 miles when we purchased it for a price of 26 million Colombian Pesos (USD5,800). These indestructible NO COMPUTER cars are worth 3-4 times that price in the US as their reputation for reliable longevity is legendary and growing.
I never owned a 124 before, but I think it’s the pick of all the previous cars I owned and hopefully I’ll still own it when I finally cease driving. It is our daily driver and interestingly whenever we arrive back home we don’t want to get out of it because it fits like a glove and is so comfortable. We’ve had to do some work to it, but relatively minor and mainly just bringing it up to scratch with some delayed maintenance.
I always enjoy your Youtubes – long may they continue.Yup my Silverado transmission blew a year ago. 5k to fix. Sold it got myself an old high mileage Titan which I know Scotty doesn’t approve of but 2k for 4×4 leather seats crew cab couldn’t pass it up. Been great to me so far no warning lights whatsoever on the dash.
Tesla should be on that list! It is second from the worst quality per customer complaints.
I bought a 2010 Nissan Altima. Spent a lot to replace parts in the motor.
Does do well for gas mileage.
