I can honestly say that I’m a 58 year old white woman that was born and raised in the country/southern. I’ve had to do things as a child that none of my black friends ever had to do. As a matter of fact, I was the only child in my school that knew how to skin and gut rabbits and squirrels. I also knew how to dig up my own worms, bait my hook, take the fish off of the hook, clean the fish and cook it. I’ve had to milk cows, churn butter and pick every kind of vegetable known to man. I’ve NEVER had ANY kind of White Privilege. As a matter of fact, I was able to get my work permit at age 15 and a half and worked almost every day. I had my son when I was 17 and my husband left right before I turned 19. I worked 3 and 4 jobs at a time and thank God that my mother and his great grandmother would help by baby sitting him. I worked for years having to work 16 hours for 5 days a week and 8 hours on the other 2 days. I never had a day off, but on the days that I only worked 8 hours I would spend as much time as I could teaching my son how to read, write, etc. so that before he started school he would already be ahead. I worked ALL of that time because his dad DIDN’T pay child support and I REFUSED to go on WELFARE!
