I lost a dear friend just days after QE2’s death. Both died at home, she surrounded by people who loved and served her, he was alone. She was up and appeared in good health when she met Liz Truss, he sounded strong when we spoke on the phone just days before. She was the world’s grandmother, he was my shelter in a storm. It makes me sick that he died alone and I wonder how will I now survive the storm when it comes? He was my friend. His name was Russell and I had known him since 1975

Born and raised in the Republic of Ireland, she was on the throne all of my life. She was always known as “the Queen” to us albeit not our Queen and very many of us in Ireland actually share the sadness of her family and the British people. She also did more for peaceful Anglo – Irish relations than many realise and who could not admire her work ethic, still working at 96 years of age, and the fact that she carried out the vow she made on her coronation to the end of her life. May she Rest in Peace.
